Yes, exactly.

so, shouldn't we care about the concerns and needs of four people about four times more than the concerns and needs of one person, since we are caring about each of them equally?

Not in the context in question. If we have $100 to give to five people, sure. If one guy is suffering and the other four don't care, this is pretty petty justificstion.

usually derisively disregard and deride them as useless and ignorant hicks in fly over country who don't matter. Because they really only care about the large cities they live in and don't give a shit about the poor rural people who are struggling.

What a stupid fucking post. How delusional do you have to be to see the exact opposite of what actually happens?

This. Liberals think very highly of people from rural areas.

What

The more rural areas get fucked over, the more likely they are to vote democrat under promise of free shit. Incidentally, this is why republicans give them free shit.

This doesn't really speak to what kind of regard liberals hold them in.

well to do Conservatives from my personal experiences are genuinely meaner to the rural poor than your most bourgeois Liberal from Suburbia/urban areas could ever dream of being.

but "caring" in political terms is a question of how to spend the federal budget. is there any other context that actually matters?

and about three of the five in question are suffering at comparable levels--rural america isn't even the area suffering worst; that honor goes to minority residents of cities.

i haven't pressed you on how you think rural communities feel about the suffering of black people in cities. should I?

Pandering to the base while despising that base isn't really exclusive to either party, or any party.

people tend to erroneously attribute racism and conservative beliefs to working class people.

(I don't mean that there isn't a problem with racism among the working class. there absolutely is. but it applies just as much to educated wealthy people. possibly even more, since the wealthy people are the ones that can actually have a direct influence on policy)

I'm pretty sure I disagree, at least in this instance

moneyed interests have been much less consistently retrogressive in their stances on race relations. it was used as a political wedge issue by elites specifically because it ginned up/gins up so much anger among the broader, less educated base

unless you just mean that limousine liberals are as racist as rednecks because yeah, that is true

This may apply in some places, but I live in a red county that went 76% to President Trump, and it doesn't apply here. It's nearly the end of May, and the corn and soybean fields are bare, nothing planted. The red hats are gone, as are the campaign signs and bumper stickers. These farmers are pissed off. And since there are no other jobs here, it's going to get really bad unless someone comes up with something, and soon.

Addendum - If someone wants to say "coal mining", the mines here dried up several decades ago.

So what you are saying is gibbering unintelligibly while punching yourself in the balls repeatedly, with unthinking religious fervor, only resulted in pain and impotence?
