I think any timeline that has "Thousands of years pass and this Link that looks the same is a different Link" is not really taking the idea of a timeline seriously.

They didn't have a timeline until fans insisted that they create one. It works better as a loosely connected series of stories that occasionally make references to each other.

The timeline before BotW, while awkward, was actually pretty good considering they had to bring together a bunch of games that mostly didn't have a timeline in mind and were basic. I'm not entirely crazy about how they based one timeline all on a hypothetical situation, but still it might have been the best they could do with what they had and it DOES make sense how OoT could potentially lead into ALttP.
But yeah I don't know how BotW plays into things, if it even possibly can... ... Copied to Clipboard!

There was never a fucking timeline outside of a few small exceptions where some games were direct sequels to others.
