My wife, daughter and I have been staying in a studio apartment since we moved to China last year. I've been asking my boss for half a year for a new apartment but it's always been some sort of excuse to delay.

Well, black mold growing behind all the wallpaper and inside our air-conditioner put a change to that. We used the ac for the first time last Monday since moving into this apartment and all 3 of us ended up sick. Turns out the entire thing is full of mold so it was basically blowing black mold spores in our face all night.

Other than the black mold problem, the apartment was decent and the location was perfect (less than a 2 minute walk to work). We just signed a contract for a brand new 2 bedroom apartment. It's bigger and nicer than our current place but is only $50/month more for rent.

I'll have a much longer walk to school (about 15-20 minutes) but I'll likely buy an ebike next month which will make it easy.

Yea for the most part. I still have these bumps on my leg that hurt to the touch (no idea what they are, would have to do a biopsy to find out. Might do it next month when I'm in Thailand). The joint pain and the cough is gone at least. I just happen to have a new cough and runny nose due to the black mold.

Crazy thing is we reported it to the building manager and he basically said it wasn't their problem. "It is your duty to clean your apartment". The place is a breeding ground for black mold due to high humidity and the fact that the apartment has no windows that open (we have an entire wall made out of glass which let's in a lot of light but no windows that open so the only way we get fresh air is by leaving the door open all day).

Can't do it on my own. Not allowed to sign a rental contract on my own, have to have a Chinese person do it for me. Plus he is one who has to pay my rent and the deposit (have to pay 3 months rent + 1 month deposit + agent fee up front). So I was basically stuck waiting on him.
