That

And I imagine all of the college kids in insane debt that CE loves to say "tough tiddies" to are gonna help make the birthrate even lower because you would have to be borderline mentally challenged to try to take care of a kid while that deep in the hole

This is all pretty false. Jobs aren't hard to find. Definitely don't need near 6 figures to raise a family. Too much garbage being put into people's heads and they eat it up.

Nah, it's all pretty true. I know multiple people with great jobs who can barely keep themselves above water. Between student loans, medical debt, and rent, I don't know a more than a handful of people my age who can afford a child.

Yes.
Socialism replaces the need to make your own labor pool, while simultaneously undermining your means to do so. Europe has been in a birth-rate "crisis" for a couple decades now, and Japan and US are catching on as well.

So the government makes it easier for poor people to have kids, and harder for taxpayers to have kids.

Standard of living. If you're "comfortable", you tend to not have as many children.
Socialism is just a part of that.

A child is another mouth to feed, but he will have two hands to work and bring in money for the family, especially as the parents grow older," said Mrs. Asha Rane, explaining why it is often the poorest families who have the most children.

That's about the best thing Google gives back, thanks to some rando band.

Poverty clouds the mind, lowers IQ, and makes you more likely to make bad impulsive decisions, like risky activity that leads to kids you can't afford.

The growing class of educated poor in first world countries is what's leading to declining birth rates. People that make just enough to have basic needs taken care of for rational thought. They then correctly decide that they cannot afford kids so they do not have them.

wat

If you're someone who thinks capitalism offers a higher standard of living than socialism, then it makes no sense to blame socialism for people getting comfortable and not having kids, esp. in a place as overtly capitalist as the US.

It doesn't matter how you get "comfortable".

If you have no particular need to breed your own supply of tiny laborers to maintain subsistence, you aren't going to do so. You're even less likely to do so as "subsistence" moves on into "decent lifestyle" - children are essentially pets at that point.

Boomers didn't need to do this and their birthrates outpaced what we're seeing here. Tbh none of what you're saying here lines up with reality.

There was a sort of Catholic (and Christianity in general) revival going on at the time. That's when "under God" got pasted into the pledge, and "In God We Trust" got added to the rest of the money.

I don't follow what this has to do with anything

There's two big reasons why someone would have a lot of children:

1. cheap labor for subsistence now, and to take care of grandma later.
2. because God says so.

Both of those reasons are being undermined in developed nations, and doubled down elsewhere (sometimes within developed nations).

There are many problems with what you're claiming here.

First, children aren't cheap, and they're not a source of labor for at least the first several years of their lives. If anything the majority of the labor those years goes into raising the child, not benefiting the parent in any material way. Later, okay, but if we take your premise that comfort = less children (and vice versa) as true, and boomers were financially less comfortable than millennials (again, wat) as true, what made boomers think their children would be better off to the point they would be able to take care of them? If anything, that's a problem now: millennials are less comfortable and less well off than their ancestors, and they don't see a future in which their potential children take good care of themselves, let alone their parents.

The extent to which religion influenced boomer birthrates is something that needs to be substantiated with evidence, but we can easily reject your premise that boomers were less comfortable than millennials and that's why they had more children.
