They're almost opposite problems. The Lost writers admit they only really ever had like 2 or 3 seasons of material and they had to make stuff up because they were told to make more seasons, whereas the GoT writers expected to have enough material for the whole show but ran out and decided to wrap up rather than just push for more seasons.

Lost really suffered because of the writer strike. It had it's moments after that, but certainly had a bigger drop in quality.
