I loved the movie but in the credits, I was disappointed they didn't do a cool Pokemon character artwork for Ryan Reynolds. They did it for every major and even some minor characters in the movie, so it's weird they left him out.
We were robbed, and now we'll never get to see a cool anime version of Ryan Reynolds :\

Also, with how the movie ended, there's basically no way to make a sequel, despite the fact it's already confirmed.
My guess is either his father dies again or something and transfers into Pikachu again, OR more organically, it takes place in the same cinematic universe (which is a thing now apparently) but isn't a totally direct sequel with the same cast.

I loved it. I think they couldn't have done a better job translating the Pokemon universe into a live action movie.

Seeing Pokemon just wandering around in the background made me so happy. It was like Star Wars. They did a great job of building this world up where these weird monsters are just a normal part of everyday life. Felt so natural and believable.

The problem wasnt the world or the Pokemon, which looked amazing btw. Hell the main reason for sure to see this movie is just to watch what a world with pokemon might look like aesthetically, which it definitely succeeded in this regard

The plot just totally shit itself at the end. I went to the bathroom when pikachu finds the bridge and I come back and mewtwo is merging pokemon and humans >______> I was so thrown off

then Ryan Reynolds is no longer pikachu :(

It just devolved into sheer fucking madness in the last act, I loved it honestly. But I like campy.

I mean, is it really that big of a deal that the story involves a near-omnipotent psychic monster merging humans with Pokemon? Like tbqh the sheer engineering and mechanics involved in Pokeballs/Pokemon storage requires a bigger suspension of disbelief than Mewtwo fusing people into their Pokemon.

And it was just random as fuck. I mean I still enjoyed the movie for sure but the last 20 min of the movie was a huge WTF is going on for me

How though? It was pretty par for the course for any blockbuster movie. Like, I think it was actually kinda tame for a final action sequence compared to other modern adventure/action films where entire cities get destroyed or characters are warping through realities and shit lol. What did you find confusing?

They'll probably just use that psychic link headset thing. He'll link up with the pikachu to go incognito with the kid and investigate some new mystery

based on some of the dialogue, is this movie a sequel to the first pokemon movie?

Not technically, but timeline-wise, it does take place 20 years after the original Red/Blue, and thus the events of Pokemon The First Movie.

It's tricky to say though because Pokemon has multiple timelines now, and the animated canon is separate from the games canon. Additionally, it's basically been confirmed that there will be a Pokemon cinematic universe now, so who knows whether it will base itself more on the games or the anime.
