7 more years? 6?

Is this the first decade we've had no good star wars games? I can't remember anything from the early 2010s.

Disney CEO enjoys what EA has been doing with the license. Wouldnt surprise me if they renew the contract.

Really? Last thing I read was Disney being unhappy that they've got a grand total of two games, only one of which was successful.

It goes til 2023. So 4 more painful years. But I'm not putting it past them extending it longer. EA will just put in another massive bid for it and Disney loves the money. No one should have exclusivity, rights should be given out case by case to get the best results. But that requires more work and disney seems pretty disinterested in the video game business.

Has anything come out of the rumors that Disney was restarting Lucasarts?

Disney had to step in and pull EA's leash over the whole Battlefront 2 debacle. I don't think they're 'happy' with how their game rights are being handled.

I think if the next EA Star Wars project blows up in their face again, Disney will probably shred their deal with EA. The exclusivity that EA has will have came with conditions and a way out for Disney if they decide they aren't happy how their property is being handled.

From Bob himself as of Feb 2019:

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/disney-says-ea-has-been-good-partner-for-star-wars/1100-6464837/

"Over the years we've tried our hand in self-publishing, we've bought companies, we've sold companies, we've bought developers, we've closed developers. And we've found over the years that we haven't been particularly good at the self-publishing side, but we've been great at the licensing side which obviously doesn't require that much allocation of capital," Iger said.

Regarding EA specifically, Iger said Disney's relationship with the publisher has been "good," despite what could be seen as issues recently.

"We've had good relationships with some of those we're licensing to, notably EA, and the relationship on the Star Wars properties, and we're probably going to continue to stay on that side of the business and put our capital elsewhere," he said.

Just wait for Disney to buy EA (or all of EA's studios, like they did to Fox)

I guarantee that they will renew their deal with EA since EA doesn't want to lose the license and make a deal that favor a lot for Disney.
