i like playing with the controller more, but it's really down to personal preference.

you get a hell of a lot more hotkeys on KB+M, but I'm a pleb that really only uses swords, so the lack of hotkeys doesn't bother me.

If you have never played it before, you should give it a try without any mods. Otherwise, https://www.tesgeneral.com/essential-se is pretty useful. Mod organizer is by far the best mod manager. In terms of absolutely essential mods, you'll need the unofficial patches, SkyUI, and Skyrim Script Extender. Skyrim Community Unlocker is also pretty useful. Otherwise, just look around https://www.tesgeneral.com/skyrim-special-edition and use what you like
