no thats a regional thing. I'm sure, as with most of the sane people of the world, everybody generally orders the soda they want specifically, ie: "ill have a Dr. pepper" or "a Pepsi sounds nice"

what kinda boulder simply says "ill have a coke" when they mean soda? so they have to deal with the ensuing "what kind"? why? when you can eliminate that pointless exchange by merely being more specific

I hate people

Most people say soda, "pop" is primarily a Midwestern thing, and calling everything "Coke" is something they do in the deep south because ofc they do.

Also, why did you refer to cream soda as strawberry Coke? Cream soda is just vanilla flavored.

What part of Oklahoma are you in? Because I used to live in a mostly rural area but it urbanized a lot and quickly since I was a kid and our way of life and mannerisms adjusted. So maybe the rural areas still act that way, idk

A coke refers to any soda under the Coca Cola brand. Coke, with a capital C, is Coca Cola.

I always call it by it's name and I'm originally from East Tennessee.

Doesn't make sense to call a orange or grape drink a Coke.

We live in Norman right now. But the majority of my wifes family is from Elk City and surrounding areas of western Oklahoma. So a lot of the old sayings stick.

My father in law is from Arkansas and he calls it sody pop.

Well yeah obviously, but that doesn't work as a collective term. For example if I'm buying supplies for a party, I might say I'm going to the store to buy pop. I wouldn't bother to say "I'm going to the store to buy Coke, Sprite, root beer, and mountain dew."

Exactly - that's why you just say you're going to buy "coke" - if they ask what kind you say lime, lemon etc. flavors of coke

No, you say Im going to buy some soda. What kind do you want? Calling all soda coke isnt not a common thing at all. Ive never met anyone who does that
