The odds of any 2 people having the exact same procedurally generated experience is so small that adding the fingerprint scanner only gives the illusion of uniqueness when simply generating the world once at the start and cloud saving it so you always get the same one has the exact same effect.

I know, but it still feels fun to me to have the random seed linked to something physical. Like the monster rancher games that would generate monsters from CD's, or that phone game that would make anime girls out of barcodes. It's more meaningful than a random string u share with others

I would buy it. I was just playing a game where I was running through a flooded mine shaft and I was like two degrees away from being able to smell the odor of the musky, dusty mine and the coolness of the running water.

fallout 4 kinda did it. but only one character would actually say the name you put in so it seemed like a big waste of time on their part imo. think there was like 70+ names/words you could use and that robot in the beginning would actually say it.

Yeah I think a couple of games have done this same thing where they just record the 100 or so most common names as individual lines but if your parents named you something stupid like mine did, you'll be excluded forever.

VA is expensive. I hear it runs about $30/line, which if you wanted to do 100 names, comes to $3000 per instance of a character speaking the name. And that's without getting to hand pick your VAs like AAA games do.

I remember being around a lot when a friend of mine would play this free to play mmo, but the trade off is whenever you where in town you'd be constantly hearing a commercial played on various tvs/radios through out the town, and for whatever reason it was the same old spice commercial on loop. I got so fucking sick and tired of that whistle tune.

my problem with 4s handling of it, is only that damn robot will actually say your name. and oddly shaun isn't a name he'll say despite i'm pretty sure he says the name referring to your son. I mean its not exactly uncommon for a father and son to have the same name.

I didn't mind the way final fantasy 15 handled it. but in street fighter V it can be a bit jarring.

in 15 other than this item existing (cup noodles) and seeing a billboard or vendor with the logo, there was like one sidequest revolving around it. and honestly I liked the sidequest so I let it slide.

I think Saints Row 2 had actual ads on some of the billboards around the city if you were online. Might've been a different game, but I distinctly remember getting so distracted by an actual ad (think it was for a movie?) that I crashed my car into a wall because I wasn't paying attention.

yeah I never played online in those so I wouldn't no.

in SF V its jarring to me cause on the vs screen it pretty much covers the background and in some stages you just see the ad all over the place and it just looks off to me. the little ads popping up before a fight though instead of the blank white loading screen I actually kinda liked though since they where personalized to the game, like chun-li stretching or ken playing with mel.
