I mean collectables that you dont collect. Like, I was kind of wondering because I got a bunch from LootCrate at one point in my life. I also get things as gifts, and buy random cool things every once in a while. Mostly video games things. And I was thinking of decorating my house more and getting shelves up. And if I did, Id figure to take stuff out of the box and set them up on the shelves because I feel they would look better.

So, are there things you guys take out of the box?

Do cats count?

Actual answer though, yeah I tend to take most things out of boxes. (At least at some point with games.) Kinda boring sitting in boxes. Tried to leave some figures in boxes, went as well as taking them out as the cats still knocked them over.

I prefer to put things in the box. But you have to take them out when you're done.

Yes. I am not a collector. If I get something for display purposes I display it. If it has a function I will use it for that function.

I have a lot of trouble understanding the point of collecting. Like I get the concept but actually doing it seems so alien to me.

I take anything I buy out of it's packaging. I buy things for my own use not to sell later. I do keep the box to some things though such as the odd console.

I bought several MLP statues and I took them out of the box to display them. And they look awesome.

Princess Celestia https://smile.amazon.com/My-Little-Pony-Guardians-Princess/dp/B01BTUK2WU/ and Nightmare Moon https://smile.amazon.com/My-Little-Pony-B7300-Friendship/dp/B01BTUK2Z2/ are a perfect pair on opposite sides of a shelf.

Depends on whether I think theyll become valuable and how cool the packaging is

There's absolutely no reason to leave anything in the box. Unless you're just going to look at it for years and years and then sell it, which is stupid. If you're going to invest your money there are hundreds of better ways to do it than making a few extra bucks (maybe) on a toy you never got to touch. Most toys/collectibles don't even gain worth over time, they lose it. Just because a company says something is "collectible" doesn't mean it will automatically go up in price. The only thing that makes something worth more later on is if there weren't that many made, and there's a demand for it.

Your life is shorter than you realize. I have collectible stuff from the 70s and 80s that I took very good care of and regardless, the plastic has degraded and become brittle. Plastic and even some die cast metal, rubber, it wasn't meant to last 20, 30, 40 years. A "collectible" is meant to sell and make money for some company right now and they couldn't care less what happens to it afterwards. Keeping it in the package doesn't accomplish anything. If you don't plan on reselling it later, it even makes less sense. You're not a museum.
