Meaning if you are a college student and buy weed, that is recorded and will follow you forever. I imagine China's social credit system will have aspects picked up by other countries and cashless will make it easier to have a lifetime profile on your citizens.

And you think they can trace every bill to every citizen? When I break a $100 and get change back, you think the grocery store has been tracking the serial number intake and who gets what serial number in change?

How does a serial number help? You give your roommate a $10 because you ordered takeout together, he gives it to a buddy for an old TV, how does the government know he ever had it?

but for now china is busy screwing there citizen in other area

wait you live in china?

Tbh there are things I buy and places I go to that I only use cash. If someone fucks up a transaction just give me my money back right then rather than wait 3 to 5 business days. Then there's just other convenient things like a friend giving you a bit of gas money, some people have a pot dealer, and some places still have a card charge too. It's not a lot but nobody wants to deal with that on a regular basis.

is not faseable for a small amount but
the money can be traced back from where you got it from first
say you got the 10$ from the bank they can tell the police that you withdrew the money from them
and from there they can follow the trail
then again this is mostly used for big crimes investigations and not on small crimes

It might be legal to buy alcohol in China but if you buy too much of it you're going to damage your social credit score. Keep that in mind.

Of course that's not how it is here (yet).

Not everyone has a bank account, and banks aren't required to give people an account. As more places go cashless these people are effectively locked out of shopping there.

There's also been a recent push by activists to bar or restrict credit purchases of legal but "undesirable" goods.

If Visa and Mastercard decide they don't want to process payments from certain vendors, regardless of their legality, those vendors are completely and utterly fucked.

For potential issues of a cashless society look at the problems Sweden is facing. They're going cashless faster than any other country and it's not all rosy.

I really wouldn't call it a deflection. I just found it funny that someone could claim they have any kind of privacy at all in this country. Unless you live 100% off the grid and use cash for all of your finances, there's someone out there that has your data.

The difference is now they have my data for what I allow them to have my data on. I have some transactions that are cash only. I never bought cigarettes with a card, they were always cash, for instance.

We've given up privacy for the sake of convenience. The digital age in all its trappings. I don't agree with a cashless society because it's just one less aspect of your life that you have control over.
