get home and realize it's made in China. Did I spend too much on a meh jacket, or make a good purchase by getting a really good jacket that's made in not so sought after country?

Material feels very smooth and soft for wool
Coat looks awesome on me, and I tried on many of a similar style
but I keep thinking "ChinaChinaChinaChina"

It's a charcoal Mont-Royal from Cardinal of Canada ($400) in case you feel like making me feel good/bad about my decision.

isn't it better to check the brand rather than the country of origin?

if it's that important to you, return it. the drive back won't cost $400. but I wouldn't obsess over the details when it comes to cosmetic items either.
