Being less reliant on stuff like CGI is a big benefit. Anything with practical effects is gonna get my interest way before stuff with cgi. Nothing with computer effects will ever touch movies like Alien or The Thing.
Also, personally I feel like in the 80s they knew how to take stuff less serious and have more fun. Look at all the action movies of the time. Sure there a fair amount of shitty ones, but at least with those shitty ones you could still have a good time. --- Brawl FC - 5412-9555-6314 Also known as Toadfan64 ... Copied to Clipboard!

The bad 80s movies are forgotten. I also think until movies used to have less studio meddling and the director had more creative control rather than producing by committee like happens now.

Talking about practical effects, watched the blob about a month ago, that's some quality right there and a remake done right.
I was a kid back then so I enjoyed alot of what the decade had. Lost boys is still a top 5 vampire movie, as is fright night. I think the horror genre was the best it had been since the golden age of monster movies in the 50s. Horror movies today don't stack up. --- "I know how the business works because I'm a wrestling fan"-hulkhogan1 ... Copied to Clipboard!

To me, cgi just kills modern movies. There's nothing impressive anymore about films. Honest to god I think Independence Day in 1996 was the last film where the special effects really amazed me. There's (now dated) cgi in there sure but so much was still miniatures and models. And it's still visually head and shoulders above stuff like Infinity War.
It's all same-y now. They can render armies fighting, planets exploding, bring dead actors back to life, etc. And none of it is engaging. None of it is special. Too many films rely on it and it always, always looks obvious. To the point that it's just boring. --- FFVII Remake: A disaster in the making. 80s movies seem better than modern movies because modern movies ARE better than modern movies.
I think modern films are reasonably good, and we're already had some classics this decade*, but the 80s had plenty of really good films*. You're not imagining things, TC. Nor is it rose-tinted spectacles, because I was born too late to really see 80s films at the time, and I suspect you were as well. 80s films are better than mdoern films. *Birdman, Hanna **TBC, Indiana Jones 2 and 3, Videodrome, Prince of Darkness, etc. --- Sunhawk's main alternate account. Look at the film alot of people talk about around this time of year.
Die Hard, the thing I tell people that do say "Its not a christmas movie"/ Yea, its sorta a joke that its a christmas movie but thats because people love the movie and want that reason to have to watch it at least once a year and since it takes place around christmas and has christmas stuff in it, it is a christmas movie, people love John McClane going around trying to foil Hans Gruber. Last die hard I saw was live free or die hard and god I just watched a clip, its like a bad parody, and he drives a car, leaves it but knows its going to shoot up and go into a plane. --- On Your Mark...Get Set........GO!!!!!! ...
