Also, being good at combat is more important than gear.

Quite sure I did the cavern of ordeals back in Twilight Princess. So even if rusty, I should be able to remember before to long. Now if I could just get some stuff that does not break within one combat...

Not that I have needed any weapons recently, unfortunately...

Better weapons have better durability.

I understand I have not found those yet.

Also, 6th shrine, was hell to get in. Lady, what is more important, the power to defeat Ganon, (which apparently is not pronounced how I thought it was) or some flowers?

Edit: 7 and a fancy bandanna. Also, first time I saw the rupee symbol in this game was with that meat/salt salesman. Despite having none...

You can sell stuff to get money. I kill animals, and use ingredients to make really good food to sell. Though, selling minerals like rubies, sapphires, topaz, diamonds, etc which you can get from either mining spots or one of the Talus enemies.

I've completed enough shrines to have 6 hearts and 2 stamina wheels. I've also unlocked the whole map and I'm just now going after my first divine beast. Also, being good at combat is more important than gear.

That was what I did when I first started. I just explored and filled the map...

This 8th shrine had 50 rupees. I have seen ore veins, but I think I lack the tools to mine them.

Edit: What kind of "tutorial" is this? Trying to get a horse since the game seems to imply I should, discover L3 is crouch, only to get pelted by Octoroks in the grass and even a laser beam...

Edit: Is there a trick to the quicktime event? Neither rapid pressing nor holding L seems to work...

Bombs for ore veins. You can shoot the tuff of grass hair off the octorok to get it to come up. Shield bash a laser to reflect it back. Where did the laser comes from, btw?

I have a shield bash? Probably a Guardian while I was pursuing the horse, was expecting more leniency from the game when it is trying to teach me stuff... The laser did give me a game over, making me realize continue is not actually continue in the Zelda sense... (Lost some items)

Did manage to get a horse after that though, currently it is at 83.

I'm not usually the type to say there are right or wrong ways to play a game, but BoTW definitely is a game whose enjoyment is built around the player making their own pace and exploring however they want. It's a VERY different game from the previous Zelda's so going in with a fresh perspective and no expectations carried from past games might help you get into the game quicker.

So for now, I would suggest that you don't worry too much about weapons; you'll always find something you can use when/if you need it.

I also highly recommend turning off objective markers if you truly want to feel like you're exploring the world. The game's NPCs are pretty good at giving directions especially since they reference areas by name and the map's areas are always labeled. Forks in the road and pathways are usually marked with signs, and beacons, stamps, and the Hero's Path mode makes sure you always know where you've been and where you might wanna go.

The most fun I've had was always been getting distracted on my way somewhere and getting rewarded for my curiosity. (either with more weapons, korok seeds, or even shrines)

Lynels don't like you riding them very much, though. That's much shorter-lived than riding a bear, generally.
