It's smart but it can also lead to a fallout. Play your cards carefully.

Though if it does fall apart someone is guaranteed to say "well, now you know it wasn't genuine," as if that helps.

I had a gf who insisted we get a prenup if we get married because she has large debts and I'd be making way more money than her as a pharmacist.

It's a definite minefield.

Either you look untrustworthy by proposing it or your partner looks deceptive if they try to talk you out of it.

And of course that assumes you don't get slapped for doubting the solidarity of your partner's love in the first place.

The shitty part is they often get thrown out in court. Say youre married 10 years, wife cheats on you and divorces you. You didnt own a house before marriage and you have kids.

Judge says that sucks, but she gets custody because you work 40hrs a week and dont have time to raise the kids. She also gets the house because it was both of yours, she needs its to raise the kids and besides, you have a job so you can just buy another one.
