Bambi got a sequel. Just came in to say this, the sequel came out like 50+ years after the first one as well. I'm pretty sure that it's the oldest direct sequel, at least to my knowledge. --- And I always liked that about me, that I know what I'm fighting for - and for this, I'd go to war Now playing: Stardew Valley, FFX, Skyrim ... ometimes someone decides to bring more money from a standalone success and even recover part of the cast like in Psycho and Wall Street (both close to 23 after the original) and Belle de Jour (39 years).
Some try to do new films similar to the original and call it a sequel like War Games and Kindergarden Cop, 25 years after the original. Sometimes a universe that was loved returns in Mad Max, Tron, Blade Runner, and even classics get a new light like The Birds, The Maltese Falcon, The Wicker Man, Easy Rider, all 30 to 40 years. And then Disney came along doing sequels of every animated film that didn't had one. 101 Dalmatians41 years Lady and the Tramp45 years Peter Pan 49 years Cinderella51 years Fantasia59 years (well, this is more like a director's cut) Bambi63.5 years --- you are not alone ... Oz the Great and Powerful came out in 2013, while the original major film adaption of The Wizard of Oz came out in 1939. That's a 74-year difference, while this is a 54-year difference. Meh...

Wasn't there another sequel in the 80s as well? Or was that just a different adaption? It was a sequel. Return to Oz. It was a lot darker, and scarier as a kid. I loved it, but few people know about it. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089908/?ref_=nv_sr_1 --- What is life, except/ Excuse for death, or death but/ An escape from life? ... Copied to Clipboard!

It's the longest span between a movie and its theatrical sequel - 54 years.
