@WiggumFan267

Yeah.

For the first time in six years I won't be there. It is doing me the BIG SAD, but things didn't work out with the new job and since they didn't invite Machinae Supremacy back I didn't move hell and Earth to make it happen like I would've normally. :(

I've never been before, but I am fairly confident that I will be going this year and I'm going alone, unless a friend changes his mind for a third time. Hope this is huge and awesome and maybe I'll see you guys there! Sans Ex...his topics are what made me aware of the event.

If it's your first time there's no way you will be ready for what to expect, but there are definitely some ways you should prepare yourself. Basically, this isn't like comic con or pax where a bunch of nerds get together and wait in line to buy shit and see some C-list celebrity. It is a straight up 72 hour long raging party and absurd nonsense. It often includes some celebrities, but they are equals among the rest of the crowd who are largely creators in one way or another as well. The whole event is made up of volunteers and the community's contributions. It's a culture of creation and respect for art and artists, not consumption and pride.

Come with about 3x as much alcohol as you think would be reasonable. Everyone is drunk constantly. Beyond the concerts and raves, every "panel" after 10pm-ish is a party in disguise. The arcade is a massive party 24/7. Room parties, etc. Not sure about during the day since I'm usually working but from what I can tell people never stop drinking.

And definitely check out the indie games showcase area next to the arcade. There's 60+ of us and there's so many awesome games, with the devs standing right there to talk to. Come back periodically over the weekend and you can catch tournaments and other kinds of events or just try to beat highscores and such. Lots of games are even available 24/7.

That sounds fun

I was assuming that this was going to be a larger more nutty version of Too Many Games...like the after hours adult version...and it sounds exactly like that.

The only problem is that the decision to go was made a few weeks ago and I am staying at a hotel across the bridge meaning drinking will be limited as I'll probably have to drive to and from. I am mostly going for the music and arcade (Which I am glad to hear it will have one!) anyway but I guess I'll bring some alcohol (No bar?) and do they break up the mosh pits?

If you're only across the bridge then uber in/out is very viable and probably much cheaper than the $20/day parking. Definitely sucks to drive.

The only bars are in the hotel restaurants, which are hella overpriced and obviously don't let you take it to go. Way better to bring your own bottles and fill a cup or flask in your room to carry around. Technically alcohol is not allowed in the convention areas so you have to sneak it (usually easy to get away with but the concert halls are strict).

Side note this year we're selling flasks for $10 at our booth with our game logo on them so you can get one there for cheap (tell your friends)

Will note your booth sells flasks.
Seriously thinking uber, even if I've never used the service before.
Bump for my posterity.
