Nothing technical about it. The troops that burned Washington were British troops that had just come from Europe after fighting in the Peninsular Campaign against Napoleon. There was nothing Canadian about them.

it was actually a stalemate for the most pathey rt, but america did gain one thing. england finally agreed to respect our soveriegnty, and they stopped kidnapping american sailors. that was what started the war. british ships capturing american ships and kidnapping the crews and enslaving them on the british ships. that stopped after the war. so in that sense, we got what we wanted.

also another thing is that canada burned down the white house. canada didn't even exist at that time. it was just british people living in the land that eventually turned into canada. but they were all british citizens who thought of themselves as british people living in a british colony. none of them thought of themselves as canadian. and the burning was done in the name of england. not the name of canada. I dont' think the word canada was even invented yet
