I can't believe so many people think this actually works. Let me tell you how it really goes around here.

Let's say your having a debate with someone on here. They don't like what you're saying, so they wait for you to make a post in which they can twist your words. Suddenly, that poster starts following you into unrelated topics going "hey look it's Lost_All_Senses, that guy that (insert misrepresented point here)." Other people see that post and ask what happened, then that poster further misrepresents what you said and the other posters hop on board.

Now, even though you have the first guy on ignore, you have to deal with an ever-growing list of posters popping into your topics to harass you about some unrelated thing you didn't even say. No amount of marking their posts ever results in something happening, either.

People acknowledge it though. If you give people no reaction than they get bored and move on. I do one better and play into the jokes. I don't need you to "tell me how it really goes" cause I've lived an entire life of people trying to get a rise out of me and not being able to. You're documenting people that allow it to get to them. Who cares if people kill 2-3 of your topics before they move on.

I tried giving @Hairistotle shit for the animal stuff and he just deflects everything I say lol. He doesn't seem to let shit get to him and oddly enough you all could learn from him.

It has to do with how you respond. I was flamed constantly when I first showed and I was constantly called an alt. Nowadays, I only get flamed by a select few people and they are prone to shitposting and ending up on the warned/etc. list regularly so they do more damage to themselves. People stopped calling me an alt because I would tell them my entire account history in wall of text form. Really, what it is for me is that I just don't give them the reactions they want. I get around using insults while still making my point and I give long ass dissertations at people trying to troll me and rile me up, on the subject of how they are incorrect in what they're claiming about me. It's the reason why I have a reputation of being condescending and standoffish.

Its not fun to terrorize someone who wont react in a negative way that allows you to gaslight and belittle them further and make yourself the victim instead of the one being bullied.

Whether or not the target reacts to the flaming isn't really the issue ITT though. The problem is that most flaming and bullying happens very openly here and the mods do jack shit to stop it.

What if one of the targets, for one reason or another, does take the recurrent flaming/harassment overly personal and ends up getting seriously depressed or killing themselves over it? It's no secret that many posters on this board likely have at least some degree of social/mental issues. Yeah, most people are able to brush it off, but you never really know just how much what you're saying effects the person on the other end.

Im incredibly mentally ill and depressed and it makes it difficult to have a thick skin sometimes, and shit here has gotten to me before. Its hard to just brush it off sometimes, especially when you dont really have people to talk to irl.

Obviously there are some extreme cases of flaming but if you build everything to protect the most fragile people, you start taking away what other people view as innocent fun. I think we're just in the middle of an imperfect balance with a few biases involved. But you kind of just gotta deal with it or leave. You can't build every place around thin skinned people just cause they don't want to find a different place to go

Well, I do among people that argue with and/or troll me. In their case, it's justified to make the claim, because that is in fact how I treat them. It's mostly because I get blunt and stern, so I come across as talking down to them, which is often but not always the case. I have all kinds of tactics and I have a superb memory. Someone claims I said or did something that I didn't? I shut them down. Someone says something hypocritical based on posts of theirs that I remember? I call them out. Someone just blatant flames me? I laugh and mark them. Hey impersonates me and tries to make me look bad? I point out his posting mistakes and have fun with whole situation until he is banned several minutes later. It's possible to get to me, but it's not easy, and when someone does, I may not show it. If I do, I don't get gotten to further when trolls circle trying to bait me because they smell blood in the water. Maintaining an appearance of being collected is not difficult for me even if I'm legitimately upset or angry. I've been on the site for a long time and I'm 35, so I'm not gonna slip and say fucked up things on impulse because someone wanted a reaction. Hey still tries to rile me up and does the word twisting thing, but except for when I'm wasted, I know what I have and haven't said and what I meant when I said it, and I won't hesitate to clarify when people misconstrue, whether out of genuine misunderstanding or maliciously.

What if I think it's innocent fun to, for example, constantly mislabel the gender of one of the transgendered users on here? That's, like, the one thing I've consistently seen users marked and suspended for. Wonder how it would go over if you just told those users to "get thicker skin" or "deal with it or leave."

Also, do you think it's just "innocent fun" to constantly mock one specific poster about shitting his bed? Apparently the mod staff does, because I've never once seen one of his trolls modded.

You completely misinterpreted my post. I meant 2 people might be cool with busting each others balls. But if in a completely different topic with 2 completely different people someone is busting the balls of someone who doesn't like to participate in it type of thing than it could be taking away from everyone. And suddenly I can't have fun with a friend cause some asshole ruined it for everyone. Im gonna watch The Sopranos now.

You really think there's not users getting off on marking stuff that has anything to do with them? There is literally a gimmick account called "Marked" lol. Also, if you're saying they are purposely ignoring marked posts in favor of people than that is a problem but the people in the position to do it are the problem so that's a hopeless battle. You'd have to start from scratch.

No, I just think of helpful adjustments on both sides. Id rather people be givin the tools to help themselves rather than just keep going at the next person to upset them. Fixing yourself is a lot easier than fixing the world. Im not saying it's right, Im saying it's more realistic. Victim blaming is one those things that's definitely bad but has convinced people to go so far the other way that they blind themselves to solutions to also help the victim. They want to only focus on the assaulter. Do both becsuse there will always be assaulters

To put it in the most basic way. If someone is being attacked physically than beat up the person attacking them yeah..but why not also give that person tips on how to fight?
