Really don't understand why trolls want NN to be gone. Do they not realize it screws them over just as much as the rest of us? I mean NN literally only protects us, and getting rid of it allows ISPs to fuck us over, which is why they spent so much money to remove it.

Social Media Platforms: If we get rid of net neutrality then Internet Service Providers could discriminate against whomever they want for whatever reason!

Also Social Media Platforms: *Spending the past year discriminating against whomever they want from their platform by permabanning them from it.*

I also gotta say the whole if we get rid of Net Neutrality all this doomsday stuff will occur shit was hysterical. It was Y2K freakout hysterical.

imagine being this user and imagine operating by this logic

and i see that no one addressed RoadsterUFO's salient point about how you lot are actually perfectly fine with unfair internet rules when it's done to censor people you disagree with.

there is no open and free internet as long as a few giant players like paypal or amazon or etc hold the keys to the platform as a whole. regardless of any "net neutrality" laws that make it easier for high-traffic cloud services to stay in business

This is such a sad attempt to piggyback on someone else once youve been thoroughly destroyed in your own topic.

lmbo how long are redhats gonna keep pretending they don't know what "censorship" means

Right? Like its amazing how in one topic theyll cry because people dont want businesses discriminating against LGBTQ people but the next topic theyre complaining that anything Facebook disallows is evil censorship that violates their rights. On one hand its fine for ISPs to throttle bandwidth for any reason whatsoever but its also evil for Twitter to ban people calling for genocide. Theres no consistency and no thought process whatsoever.

They only care if it affects them. So far isps haven't shut down their alt right safe space so they don't care.

I didnt vote for Trump and dislike him for multiple reasons. I was just pointing out the irony of social media platforms bitching about the end of NN and all these what if scenarios of discrimination (while simultaneously using their platform to do what theyre bitching about ISPs possibly doing in the future). A private business should be allowed to discriminate against whomever they want. If some social media giant wants to ban hammer a Neo-Nazi and if some religious baker wants to refuse service to a gay dude all should be free and fair to do so.

And ISPs should be able to jack up the prices of their services. For the meltdown, at least.

In order for better advances in ISPs to exist youre gonna to have to take it by a local issue and get rid of all those good intentions zoning/regulatory laws in place that lobbyists and bigger companies lobbied for to make it harder to get into that market in the first place.

Nobody pro-repeal ever bothered expressing why the repeal was worth the effort.

I can understand being against instituting new legislation out of some misguided libertarianism, but to put in the effort to repeal it is another matter.

What in this document is so burdensome to ISPs that it needed to be taken away lol

The two situations are so different that it's barely a post worth responding to

Municipal broadband has been illegalized by big cable anyway, and the districts have been intentionally set up as a monopoly so there really is no argument that exists that supports how big cable would even remotely be open to the idea of competition.

Define how it is bullshit and not a double standard for social media platforms to have freaked out a few months ago at the thought of NN being gone while simultaneously doing the exact things they feared ISPs would do under NN ending with their own businesses?

If Twitter bans you, you can always use some other part of the internet. It may not be ideal, but its doable. In fact, you could even put in some legwork and start up your own platform if no one else will have you.

If an ISP bans you, theres nothing you or your audience can do besides use another ISP. But, infrastructure and current legislation being what they are, that ranges from incredibly difficult, to impossible, to outright illegal depending on where you live. And putting in some legwork and starting your own ISP isnt remotely feasible for anyone except massive corporations, who are rarely the victims of censorship and have no financial incentive to do so.

Itd be like the difference between blocking access to certain cars and blocking access to interstates.

Oh, youre one of those people who holds views contrary to your own self interest for no good reason.

Youre not making any argument.

He's pointing out you decided to post your bullshit here in a anti-nn topic.

Make your own.

What do you do when large hosting companies boot you off? And when payment processing services like Paypal boot you off? There's only so many alternatives to use, which means that you're being disingenuous about whether or not there is a problem with that.
