Workers at two Amazon distribution centres in Germany have gone on strike as part of a push for improved work conditions, leading to fears that Christmas orders may not arrive in time.

The German news agency dpa reported that workers in Leipzig in eastern Germany and Werne in western Germany went on strike early Monday.

The ver.di union representing the workers says Amazon employees receive lower wages than others in retail and mail-order jobs in Germany.

Amazon has said in the past that its employees earn relatively high wages for the industry.

The company was not reachable for comment on Monday.

This is how you do it. Sure you can strike any other day but they can easily find replacements if they needed to. Wait until the busiest time where itll be harder for them to find replacement workers and train them in time to really make it hurt. Only thing is it also fucks up the customers who did nothing wrong, which is unfortunate, but itll still be felt harder by Amazon.

This is the only way to make it truly work though, only when the consumers feel it will anything actually get done.

The way the EEC is set up, Amazon has already found those replacements, in Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, France, Austria, Czechia, Poland, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and maybe even Lichtenstein. It's just a few more km in a truck, and there's a little over a week to ship from a different warehouse.

This. Better, more efficient service, less products arriving damaged, no more "muh $15" for picking an item out of a box.

Agreed, the onset of a state provided living wage due to full automation is going to be great

Fire and replace.

This is the very mentality why companies feel confident to look down on their employees. As long as they can see them as easily interchangeable, there is no incentive to ever consider their grievances.

So long as individual employees are easily interchangeable, they will be interchanged.

If your on-the-job training was about fifteen minutes, that's how soon you can be replaced.

So what are these "poor conditions"? I mean if they want to get paid 100/hr then that's just being crazy.

The thing is that most jobs probably don't truly require much training to be sufficiently adequate, except for the ones that essentially expect you to already have the necessary skill set. It's really not in the general populace's best interest to support that kind of mentality so readily.

just looked quickly.

$15/hour in US and 9.5 in UK(10.5 in london)

UK and(i'm assuming) EU amazon workers are getting screwed pretty hard since 9.5 = $12.. add to that higher taxes etc. and makes sense to strike for better pay.

42% in Germany

Although I'm not sure whether Amazon workers earn more than the 450 cut-off
