I guess that makes the Netflix one the third, then.

I like the Disney jungle book but I dont really see what is so compelling about the story that they keep making so many different interpretations of it

Is the story public domain or something?

I forgot that Netflix is making one too. So yeah, that would be three live action adaptations of The Jungle Book.

I'm not sure why Netflix is even bothering with it since the last one only came out a few years ago. Remaking a 20+ year old movie is one thing, but remaking a movie that is only a few years old makes no sense.

^ thats what Im saying

Remaking a remake is pointless, esp if said remake is like two years old

From the trailer, the Netflix one seems like a different story from the animated Disney one. I don't know how true that is, but adapting a different story is reason enough to make a new adaptation, I'd say.

There was a live action Jungle Book movie made in 1942, starring Sabu as Mowgli. And there was Elephant Boy from 1937, also starring Sabu as Toomai of the Elephants.

Personally my favorite adaptations of the Jungle Book stories were the Chuck Jones animated TV specials, Mowgli's Brothers, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, and the White Seal.
