Four is the earliest entry that I played and I think they got progressively easier.

FF games are more like endurance challenges than anything

FFIV DS' challenge came more from how you can't just blow past any battle by picking "Fight" over and over and over, you actually have to utilize your skills and pay close attention to what's happening

Pretty much

Grinding is easy. Time consuming and makes you want to bite your own balls off in frustration, but still easy.

If monsters dont level up with you and grinding just makes you OP then yeah the rpg is easy

Excluding XI and XIV since MMOs are very different styles of difficulty, XII no question. It has some extremely nasty difficulty spikes and late-game hunts and locations are brutal.

3 on DS was absolute dog shit in terms of difficulty. The game was an unbalanced mess.

That game isn't hard, it's just cheap as fuck. It's also the worst version of FFIV. Fuck that abomination with a fork.

4 on the GBA kicked my ass. As did War of the Lions. 12 remaster has been a bit challenging for me so far.

2 had a hard final boss if you ignore the blood sword. System was too easy to abuse

I would have answered 4 just for the fact that I've played very few FFs and out of those I found that the hardest.

I'm surprised that there are actual posts advocating 4 as the hardest(I'm assuming these people, unlike me, have actually played a lot of the other games in the series). Didn't expect it.

Going off the originals, Id say 2. Id imagine most people play that game for the first time while already knowing of how to exploit the games mechanics. If you do not know about the exploits and go about the game in a traditional manner, its a hard game.

4 is hard until you figure out how to distribute the augments. Having Rosa have Dualcast and Omnicasting makes a huge difference. As well as having Cecil have draw attacks and brace. But you cant play it blindly and know how to distribute the little amount of them it gives you to get the good ones later on. A lot of the hard random encounters usually have status effects theyre vulnerable to as well. Iirc dark mages or dark sorcerers or whatever theyre called will spam tier 3 black magic spells on you and can wipe out your whole team. But, if you cast toad on them, theyre helpless. Iirc blind and berserk works on behemoths and the giant things you fight at the end. Even something like dualcasting slow and haste helps a lot. Plus, almost every enemy is vulnerable to sap. The four fiends were hard, though. They each had their special move that did a lot of damage.

Status effects that actually work is why FF4DS is my favorite version of FF4. RPGs tend to always have status effects you can use, but everything worth using them on are either immune or have such a high resistance that you will kill them before it has any effect or just after effecting them.

8 was hard for me because I played it like a regular RPG where leveling makes you better >_>
