I'm not really sure what you mean by that. Knights became more important with the expansion of the feudal system, not less.

Knights decline precipitously after the fall of Acre around 1300 and Philip the Fair, the French King, was heavily indebted to the Knights Templar. Worrying about national security and no longer seeing them as necessary, he had a mass arrest of many of the Templar and effective wiped them out overnight.
