Theyre unpaid. And everyone can literally make as many accounts as they want even if banned.

You could make 5 accounts right now and in 3 days you could just suicide them all on ce.

Anyone can do this. Why be a mod?

Why be a grocery store supervisor? pay is the same, you barely have any more power than regular employees, and you get the same amount of hours.

There are many different hierarchies in life. Being high on a herarchy may matter a lot (CEO of a company) or not at all (Moderator on a dying video game website). Regardless of the ctual value of climbing a particular hierarchy people who occupy a higher position in any hierarchy pretty much universally feel better about their own self importance.

I just really enjoy people getting their comeuppance for being rude. That, and it's one less person modding people for things that shouldn't be modded.

I'll never be a mod though. I keep getting moderated, by what I'm pretty sure is just one person.

I've been modded a few times myself in the past, for either discussing roms, or discussing legality with copyrighted material here in Canada. Just by speaking on how the law is a little more lax up here than down in the states got me modded. Can't fight out of it either, at least from my experience. You will almost always lose.

My personal favorite was getting modded for spoiling something that happened a week ago(a few years ago) on Monday Night Raw, with someone being angry that they didn't watch that particular episode.

Now, that said, most Mods on this site are pretty good now with having discussions of taboo topics, and have become a bit more mellow in the past couple years, and many of them will come into discussion topics and chat freely about certain topics. Long as you don't give out information about where to obtain illegal content(games, music, movies and the like).
