That seems so wrong. Wasting both you and their time. More often than not I'm pretty sure it would not end up being "a cute person" that you both end up talking about mutual things not related to their job. You'd have to call a lot of them to ever get that situation once I would think.

People love getting more calls, thus higher probability of bad callers, versus talking to someone about interesting stuff on company time.

I didn't want to start out with all the details but I've made friends with people from around the continent by doing so. If you're personable you can make it happen with pretty much anyone.

I do at most of my jobs. I try to keep the line drawn between work friends and actual friends though. I've just never worked at a call-centre where you're getting tens of callers every day. So obviously working with the same people all the time you'll get to know them.
