One of my coworkers was complaining that a boy she just started dating was taking her fishing. Some background on her: She's 18, a city girl and has a low tolerance for "gross" things. I found him wanting to take her fishing surprising. I've never even considered that as a date activity and certainly not at that age nor do I recall any friends taking girls fishing on a third date or whatever. I mean, if I was dating a girl that loved fishing then ok. That'd make sense. But a city girl that has zero interest in it? Seems...like a weird move. Anyone done this? Is it like a common thing in more rural areas?

As with anything it just depends on the person. A great date for one girl might be a nightmare or a snooze fest for another.

I mean she could always just say fucking no, but whatever yeah I don't see any issue in taking someone on a date that takes them out of their comfort zone as long as the invitee still intends to go through with it anyway.

I would never pick that as a date, but if she's outdoorsy and likes that kind of thing it could be great.

If she's into outdoor activities like camping without toilets and showers nearby, sure. City slickers, definitely not.

It's not a good idea.

A lot of people (like the majority of the planet? lol) have a low tolerance for bugs and wildlife, so taking a girl who grew up in the city fishing could be bad.

I can speak from experience that when you go fishing there's a lot of opportunities to socialize but there's also a LOT of bugs and smashing fishes brains in that's completely unpleasant.

I would never do that unless I knew it was something she was into.
