Switch isnt gonna be the newest Nintendo console for 10 years and the Smash fandom will flip their shit if they get a new console that doesnt have Smash on it for years

Unless the next console is backwards compatible and they somehow allow you to transfer saves

Ultimate is super polished and has more fighters than anyone can conceivably play.

When they eventually release a new console, they should just port Ultimate as a launch title and make sure there is cross-platform play.

10 years sounds too long, we've had 5 Smash Bros games released in 19 years (counting Wii U/3DS as a single release)

The next game is gonna be a MK9 style reboot. They won't get all these third parties back and they need to revamp the gameplay a bit imo. They can only do "EVERYONE IS HERE" once

If he decides to make another smash it will be a completely different game. Smash on the switch was like a final good bye to the series hence all the characters and work put into it.

I expect a revamped system and small roster if he does touch this series again.

Who cares? Theyll still buy it and play it after spending months crying about it. They cant keep 3rd party characters in every game forever.

Honestly idk why you guys are freaking out. The switch is selling hand over fist. I can see Nintendo dragging out the Switch lifespan for a very long time. Since Sakurai is involved in such a critical project (botw, the acclaimed launch game was serial # 1, Smash was serial # 2... to illustrate priorities) he would have to know about the projected lifespan of the console.

Cant make a new game for new hardware if the hardware isnt even in development yet.

Could be. Video game generations keep getting longer. If Nintendo intends to ride the Switch through 9, SSB for Switchy (or whatever terrible as hell name they give it) could totally come out in ten years.

Not all the way but there are plenty of things to do in the meantime, from roster and stage considerations to designing mechanics and balancing to you name it.

Great games last forever. Sometimes new games just fragment the playing population making the playerbase smaller. Look at the CoD franchise starting to collapse due to overabundance of games.
