So either you put up with objectfully worse audio output and vastly increased battery drain, or you pay through the nose for a half decent set of bluetooth earphones to make up the sound difference....for what? So you don't have to deal with a small wire in your clothes?

And yet, this is where smartphone manufacturers are going. Even Samsung now has the gall to treat this basic technology like a premium feature.

It makes me irate thinking about it.

Wait, did Samsung remove the headphone jack from their phones now? :(((

The reason I bought an S8 was because it had a headphone jack and the iPhones didn't...

They brought out a new "A" phone (their mid-range, cheaper line) without a headphone jack, and leaked reports show the new S10 probably has a headphone jack. So basically it feels like they're treating this as a premium flagship feature you only get if you spend $1k+ on a phone.

Obviously samsung fans are furious.

As someone also in "the IT industry" I think you're full of shit and will be until optical and bluetooth connectivity becomes as reliable and fault-free as wired devices.

The advantages of being untethered to a cable are surprisingly appealing. Especially when doing chores and wanting to watch a show in the background or something. My favorite use of bluetooth headphones is watching tv on my phone while doing dishes.

I have a pair of those hook over your ear type earphones with a thin cord connecting them that you put behind your neck. Only costed me maybe $35, doesnt have those weird plastic collar things, only need to charge them once a week, maybe twice if Im constantly using them. And I can just let them hang around my neck under my shirt when not using them. Im not exactly an audiophile or whatever but they sound pretty good to me. Pretty good range on them too. I can leave my phone in my bedroom while in the kitchen and theres no drop in quality.

I only bear with them cause I hate when wires touch my face. And even then I have to deal with wire touching my neck.... Half tempted to try those shitty truely wireless ear buds.

Keep useful features as standard, don't remove them and then add them back in as a "premium" upgrade.

I'm still using an iPhone SE. I haven't been compelled to try anything wireless as my only option. For a time I owned some wireless bluetooth over-ears but the battery life was subpar.

My main concern is having to deal with a short battery life. My headphones are on playing music probably 8 hours a day during work and I prefer to wear them while making calls after I'm done working. Basically I'm afraid anything wireless would always be dead.

My over ears would die and I'd switch to a wired solution until they charged regularly.

Bluetooth earbuds still have a long way to go on being worthwhile.
Key problems

Battery life
Audio quality
Connection ease

Anytime I've used bluetooth earbuds I just wondered where the cords were after a few minutes of fumbling with set up.

Eh, the only real issue is audio quality for me. Most of the 30-50 dollar range bluetooth ones have around 8 hours battery life, and connects pretty easily to my device. Audio quality is all over the place though and usually shit.

Oh that's really good to hear. Glad improvements are getting made since I last seriously looked into them.

Someone is just massively JELLY about how fancy the two little white tails of the AirPods protruding out and down of delicate middle-class ears look on someone in an elegant business suit (mandatory italian collar & windsor tie knot if man / white slimfit shirt & tailleur if woman).

What kind & what battery life do you get?

I just checked Airpods and they are abysmal. 5 hours of listening time or 2 hours of talk time on a single charge.

Wired headphones? What is this? 1995?

My AirPods are great.

They dont have top tier sound quality but its pretty good. Battery life is never an issue and connecting them takes like 3 seconds then theyre paired for life.
