Sheesh... And it's the core switch stack at that... Half of the ports on the 1st switch won't learn any MAC addresses.

I'm starting to take over network management for another one of my job's buildings, and this is what I'm diving into. smh

It's crazy how much networking hardware manufacturers still manage to fuck up implementing decades old standards

But Switch is the best console this gen... jk.
Is it the problem with that switch in particular? Can you swap it out and see what happens?
What was the cause of the issue?

I think it's related to a software bug with that particular model of switch. I'm gonna have to get my job to buy Smartnet so that I can consult with Cisco TAC as well as download the newest software version.

The more I learned about networking the more amazed I became that the internet works at all.

In my experience, the toughest part of it all is dealing with service providers in China. Years ago, I was able to figure out that CITIC was causing global routing loops for thousands of prefixes. Getting them to fix that (at least for the particular prefix I was concerned about) was a 4 day affair.

And then recently some Nigerian ISP broke global routing for Google-destined traffic by advertising the wrong prefixes.
