I had a bunch of friends that liked it in high school but I watched two episodes yesterday and I was like this is the anime-est thing ever lol.

Wouldn't say I disliked it but Iunno it just kinda felt like welp there went 40 minutes.

One of my favorites when I was a kid, but when I rewatched it it wasn't nearly as good. Too much typical filler/long winded speeches before and during fights.

Like most shounen it starts with a bunch of short slow arcs to introduce each character. Then when Saito shows up it gets awesome for a long arc that finishes at just the right time. Then it catches up to the manga and hits filler hell until it's cancelled. Only a flashback of Kenshin's past from later in the manga gets animated as an OVA, but it's kinda awkward without the main arc storyline giving more context. Now we probably won't ever get the final arc because of what happened with the author.

I got through episode 4 yesterday. The one where he meets San... oh for the love of... Sansuke? The dude with the giant sword covered in the bag or whatever.

Still not really feeling it. I did kinda like episode 4 but tbh the dialog is just so cringe. Like in episode 3 when Yu... the little kid asks about the military dude and Kaoru freaks out and gives that awful exposition. I guess it's just an anime thing. I remember a lot of this kind of stuff in pokemon too, from the few episides I watched. I hated pokemon.

Anyway, is there a certain point I should try to get to before deciding it's just not for me? I did notice that the thumbnails for the episodes get a little darker as the season progresses so maybe the shift in tone will grab me.

I got to the third part after it and just. I've seen some filler. And besides the Christian cult arc right at the start, the rest is 100% ass. And even then, the cult one goes exactly as you'd expect by the third episode where they basically foreshadow who the real villain is, and he's not even interesting so.

I don't remember when it gets good, but I did enjoy the few episodes I watched a long time ago.

I do have to warn you that you would need to read the manga at some point to continue the story, as the TV show got cancelled after doing a filler arc.

As a kid I remember watching something called Samurai X which described Kenshin growing into the assassin he was and it was awesome. Now I'm trying to look it up and nothing seems to match up so I don't know what exactly I watched at all. >_>

Yes. This is actually why I decided to try the anime.

T&B is a top three movie of all time, and it's not even technically a movie. I've seen it like ten times. Legendary.

I also watched Reflections, and while I loved the tone, it didn't really work as well for me. Operating on the hunch that it may have been because of how many characters were involved that I guessed were from the anime (well also Inishi's role was stupid af), I decided to watch RK to see if that helps.

The anime is good, but as others have mentioned, it gets weak towards the end.

The only real complaint I have about the anime is that the overreactions really are out of place in this kind of story. I in general don't like those kinds of overreactions and this anime has them all over the place.

The six or 3 movie OVAs are freaking God tier anime quality. Really rock solid stuff there and a very great ending (I know it was 3 dvds, but can't remember if it is 6 or 3 movies)
