How old were you when you stopped believing the bible's account of three wise men from the east bearing gifts of frankincense (an incense), myrrh (an embalming oil), and gold (a precious metal)?

I don't know what's unbelievable about the story. A couple of rich dudes notice something weird in the sky, take it as a prophetic sign of the Messiah their people have been waiting centuries for, grab some expensive gifts and head to the city they understood the prophecy to designate. They ask the ruler when they get there where the king of the Jews is because they just noticed the prophecy was fulfilled. It's the first he's heard of it but he tells them to let him know when they find him, secretly planning to kill him to protect his political power. Then they eventually find a baby and give him the gifts.

Even if you don't buy into the prophecy itself, it's really not an outrageous story.

I started questioning the whole religion thing at about age 7.

When a fucking 2nd grader looks at his parents and says "I don't think Moses could be 700 years old, this is dumb", you know your story about invisible friends doesn't hold water.

I started questioning religion and age 12-13 and no one has ever had adequate answers, so probably somewhere around there.

I believe some things in the New Testament are true but 3 sages prostrating themselves in front of the chosen child seems like a really symbolic sort of thing

I think it's very likely much of the bible is metaphorical, not literal, but humanity wasn't ready to understand the full truth at that time. I mean people worshipped the sun. Do you think they would have understood if someone said "oh that's not a god, the earth revolves around the sun and the earth is tilted on its axis"

I believe that they existed. I just dont think Jesus was really the son of god. Maybe he was just a con man doing David Blaine shit and people didnt know that he was fooling them so they believed that he really was the son of god lol
