I wasn't that good at the game, so I kept spamming that one combo where you knock the enemy into the air, and then slam them to the ground, but I still felt super accomplished after I beat the game.

There's nothing wrong with what you did. At the hardest difficulties, basically all you do is spam moves with invincibility frames.

i loved ninja gaiden black but it was a lot more frustrating than it was challenging. lots of cheap deaths and getting shot by shit off screen

I don't really see the comparison, but I'm tainted by awareness I suppose given that Ninja Gaiden is some douchebag doing all these tricks with a basketball while telling you to come and get it if you can (and proceeds to kick you in the crotch for good measure), while Dark Souls is that friend who gives you tons of shit but will celebrate with you at the end when you succeed.

Basically Ninja Gaiden is a dick. Fuck Awakened Alma on MN. I'm still salty after all these years.

I think the original release of DMC3 was even more difficult than Ninja Gaiden. I at least beat NG, I couldnt beat the finale of DMC3.
