Mabinogi is a lot better if you wanna play a free MMO.

there's a premium subscription which gives you some benefits but nothing game breaking afaik.

the game's more about gear checks a la typical mmos now than before.

ie. need a gear score of X to do dungeon/raid Y.

I had people following me around a lot complimenting me on my hair (avatar looked like blue-haired Kurt cobain lol). That was amusing. Lots of times though there were cheaters camped in rooms and enemies would just be killed upon spawning and all the loot would just get magnetized to the cheaters. That got me bored with the game. I remember liking a lot of the music though. The one port city after the tutorial island had a really pleasant theme. Funniest memory of the game was some chick who didn't speak English well trying to flirt with me and get me to buy her some wedding dress that cost like 10 times more gold than I had.

They probably aren't anymore. This was probably 10 years ago or more. The game was fairly new at the time. They started to crack down a bit, but by then I was already losing interest because it was too much of a pain to grind for whatever stuff I needed for better gear. I'll look into the 2nd one now that I have a computer that can run things from more recently than like 6-7 years ago >_>

Went to the website. Not really digging the art style but I kinda want to give it a try. The Rune whatever class looks neat. What are the controls like? Is it controller compatible? (I have basic xbox-style pc controller)

Hmm. It is kinda fun. Gave it a try. Hybrid controller and mouse is weird o_O but I'll get used to it. Did tutorial stuff and dough a very easy boss. Probably meant to be easy. Did single digit damage and was super easy to avoid.

It's definitely taking some getting used to. I usually use d-pad for moving, so using the stick goes against muscle memory, but I can switch pad and stick, but using stick for menus is annoying so I just have to get used to it :P
