I'm not sure what to think. Who from LOTR is in / working on it?

It does look kinda stupid, though. Really over the top. Is it meant to be steampunk?

Peter Jackson is a writer and producer along with some other crewpeople who also worked with him on LOTR/The Hobbit.

What's suspicious as hell is that the director is some no-name mystery guy who oversaw art direction for LOTR and not Jackson so I'm guessing he removed himself from directing credits in case the movie bombs horrendously, which will definitely happen.

It looks cash grabbing YA novel adaptation dreck. Where you choose some book the kids happen to love and turn it into a movie.

Harry Potter started this trend, Twilight codified it, and the success of those franchises is why we keep getting these bad YA novel adaptations (Maze Runner, Divergent, Hunger Games, City of Bones, etc.). Fans of the novel will drag their parents to the theater, and if they're lucky they launch a trilogy off of it. If not, they can just cancel the sequel and line up to get the next one.

I'm half-way tempted to add the Nutcracker movie in with these, because despite being an older story than those above examples, it's leaning heavily into the tone and filming style of those films, sprinkled through with a bit of Tim Burton.

There's a lot of crap that general audiences are willing to watch and turn off their brains for long enough to get enjoyment out of silly premises.

But this movie finally found the breaking point. It looks soooo stupid. Even before you factor in the crappy cgi and that everyone seems to talk in trite cliches in the trailers. The mere premise of zillion ton mobile cities eating one another is just fucking stupid.
There's a line in the tv trailer that really sticks out. "We have to stop London" in reference to this big dumb moving city. London. Idk. That series of words, the fact that London is a stupid mobile city. There is just something so overwhelmingly and immediately off putting about that concept. It feels like the average person just closes their eyes and puts their hand to their forehead for a moment to think. This is a thing? This is what we're doing? No.

If anything this has minutely redeemed humanity a little for me. Knowing that there's a level of stupid they're not willing to cross yet.

Yes, a magical gauntlet is less ridiculous than a big city on wheels. I agree with that guy, the entire concept of the movie just seems dumb and silly. And the fact that this big evil city is literally called London just makes it even more goofy.

within the logic of comic books, and the background lore of the marvel universe, the Infinity Gauntlet makes sense in what it does. it controls reality

cities on wheels? why? I just don't understand the point of moving a city around. what's the reason? if they are following resources that move around or something.... it would be easier to just have hunting bands go out and gather and return to the city
