I haven't gotten into them..yet. But it's probably something I'd like.
I'm a tinkerer, and I used to program on old 80's computers.

https://www.raspberrypi.org/help/what-%20is-a-raspberry-pi/

Seems like a modern take on one of these...which were pretty cool.

A motherboard about the size of an Altoids tin. (Which is a common/cheap case)
Many people load linux emulators on it and say its better than a Classic console.

But they aren't really counting the cost of the case, the SD card, the power cord, the USB dongle, the HDMI cord, a controller or two and the hassle of doing it yourself and dealing with linux. You can easily spend $50+ trying to be cheap, while hacking a SNES Classic is infinitely easier (really, Ninty should be embarrassed) and prettier, therefore worth the extra $30.

short answer: a guy decided a long time ago that there weren't enough electrical engineers in the world and knowledge of how the hardware of computers work was being lost, so he wanted to create a computer that was simple enough to be built by hand by one person and could also be super cheap so that schools and colleges could order them in bulk. The Raspberry Pi is what he came up with. The original model cost just $25 and you had to build it yourself, like one of those radio kits.

Then you also had to do the programming and such for it.

It started the DIY electronics craze today.

There's a kit that comes with a case, power cord, SD card, HDMI, and the raspberry pi on Amazon for like $35 I think. That's how I built my diy classic console

The SNES Classic only has a few titles. A Pi can have all SNES games. From a cost/benefit analysis, the Pi is better.

Time is a funny thing. There is always too much of it, except when you need it the most. Then there is never enough.

By flashing firmware onto the chips. You can do that with C or for really simple bios use assembly.

I pasted that into amazon and wow there's one for $35 with a SNES knock off case. The other kits are even cheaper.

it's easily hackable though, even without any knowledge of programming.

You can discuss emulation in a general sense, any discussion of specific use is only allowed if you're using 100% legal media - both the game media and the BIOSes.

Between Raspberry Pi's (lack of) power, what consoles' media can be used legitimately on a device other than the console, and and what systems have open-source legal BIOSes available... this pretty much means you can discuss using them to emulate a PS1 while using a USB optical drive with legitimate PS1 discs and one of said open-source replacement BIOSes.

This account has no upholds-by-admin (or moderations, full stop, for that matter). Having none of them tends to significantly reduce bullshit moderations.
