Once a day, I belief. And if you didn't, you couldn't play any games at all.

Wasn't that a great idea? I'm glad they kept it for launch! And the PS4 and Switch both following suit! It sure did improve the gaming scene.

What stupid shit has Sony done recently?

Are you talking about the PS1 Classic? That's not even close to the "ideas" they had for the XBox One. Plus, even though they never inplemented that stuff, it is still a pretty average console, due to the rather lifeless gaming library.

I'm surprised MS didn't try and pretend it was a joke or something. That's what I would've done (if I was stupid and evil).

the funny thing is that like 90% of the shit people complained about in regards to the launch Xbox One are commonplace/popular things now that most people dont even care about anymore lol

Sony fanboy? I've never owned a Sony console in my life.

Also, I've finished many of the books I've written in the last 12 (actually 13) years.

Stop just making stuff up.

Why do they call it the XBox One? Because you'll take one look at it and walk away.

What about how they forced Kinect on people anyway? Cost about 450 as a package in the UK, originally. That's about $700 or something in America. I used to work in a video game store, and people would come in every day, asking if we had bundles without Kinect.

MS were obsessed with ramming it down people's throats. Sad. Then, they changed direction without warning after maybe a year, and Rare got hurt the most, because they had been the main people that MS had working on Kinect titles. Of course, I didn't give a fuck, because Rare were already a joke by 2014 anyway. Had been for about 10 years.

We should also remember that Sony got patents on using your voice, eye iris, fingerprints and DNA as DRM.
And how to lock a disc to one console, which prevents your friends from borrowing your games.

I think forcing Kinect is the thing to remember. Especially with the rumors I hear of a PS5 requiring PSVR

Well yeah I agree with that too, I don't have an Alexa.

Though we all have smartphones that are always on and always connected so that's also, y'know, worrisome

yea exactly. imo the launch Xbox One was years ahead of its time, although not necessarily in a good way (lol). just off the top of my head:

Online only - majority of big titles now are games that require 100% internet connection, like Destiny 2, Black Ops 4, Fortnite, etc

No used games - physical sales are way down now, to the point where Gamestop is possibly going private to restructure, so people clearly don't care about used games since everyone is going digital and taking advantage of digital sales for discounts

Kinect required - as i said before, things like Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Facebook Home are very hot products, as are always-listening digital assistants on phones (Google Assistant, Siri, Bixby, etc)

Multimedia - people complained about the multimedia focus of the launch Xbox but now streaming is a major selling point of consoles. look at the Playstation Vue, a cable TV alternative that uses the PS branding to sell it

just had to get that mini rant out there, it's kind of silly how gamers get really upset about things and then forget about that a few years later

Kinect was the most useful piece of shit I've ever had come with a console. I never needed my remote anymore >.>

At least Microsoft listens to complaints. Sony just doubles down until the very last minute. I.E. cross play, backwards compatibility (still staying firm that no one plays old games lol), etc. They even removed the rewards for trophies not too long after they put that in place.

I dont see the point of bringing this five year old news up. The idiots that came up with that garbage are long gone. The guys in charge now are doing a great job of getting what owners want.

Im really looking forward to the next Xbox. I believe that all of those mistakes they made this-gen are going to be fixed with the new one.
