Occasionally I'll have a tap open up that wants me to for example, update Windows. It seems to be some type of virus/malware thing. Never had this issue with chrome, but chrome was freezing so I moved to firefox.

Never and I use Firefox on both my work and home computers. You're either going to sketchy sites or already infected.

Look through your plugins/addons. Sometimes shit gets installed without your consent.

When downloading stuff, some people host it on sketchy servers. It's not actual malware, but a phishing scam. There are browser addons that prevent the sketchy content loading.
