Hell no. AJ:AA did a lot of ballsy shit and it's clear that Takumi wanted to take the series in a new direction only to have all of that get shit on in DD.

That's an original take. I thought the general assumption was that Takumi intended for it to end with T&T and because of that put less effort into AJ which he was more or less pressured to do since he really wasn't into it.

Takumi wanted to end Phoenix's story after T&T. He wasn't even originally going to include him in AJ and only did so because Capcom made him. (Which explains why it might seem like he was "putting less effort" into it as he had to rewrite the story to include Phoenix.)

That's right, but are you sure he wanted to continue the series at all? Why didn't he make a follow up after AJ then? AJ actually had the best sales of the 4 games too so that would be incentive for him to have continued if he was planning to take it in a new direction like you said.

Takumi went on to do passion projects like Ghost Trick and DGS afterward. It's clear he really wanted to do something new but kept getting hamstrung by Capcom, who insisted on having Phoenix on the cover for every AA game.

Oh wow, I didn't remember the Jerry Lee Lewis reference. Though Gavin's apparent dislike for rock n' roll (unless he was just trying to be funny) is a shame.

Wonder if I should bother continuing my backwards run of the main AA series with the trilogy, after this. Playing it again might just make me moody about the directions the series ended up going in.

My main response to my AJ:AA replay so far is that the game itself is quite flawed but there are some things about it that I find charming and make me overlook its issues, so even though I might give previous games 10/10s I could still give this one an 8/10

imagine the adventures Lamiroir and Jove Justice would have had together . . .

Will say that I am having fun with 4-3, but I guess since I've played through this game a couple times (iirc) before I don't have too many thoughts on the matter.

I'll say that I prefer having more cases that are a little shorter over lengthy ones, for what that's worth.

(last post-in-a-row) Finished my AJ:AA replay. I doubt I'll ever touch the game again. I was burnt out by the time I finished. Had its strong points though (especially Apollo's Pursuit music. Oooohhh, so good...).
