I recently heard of someone saying music that samples animal sounds isn't or might not be vegan.

On it's face, it seems like an absurd claim but the circumstances actually seem relevant.
As I understand veganism, there are really 2 applications, diet and sociological affect of exploitation. If you sample sounds of an animal under duress, be it a pet,in a zoo or some other captivity, it seems to be a way of exploitation . . . but these sounds are infinitely recreatable and generally happen whether the mic is on or not. And frankly they could be indistinguishable from recordings of wild animals.
