Why are the console boards like this? I do struggle to see why it's so important.

Refresh rate/fps > resolution. At least for fast paced games. I have a 2k 144hz monitor, I set it to 1080p when playing BFV just for the increased FPS. I plan to get a RTX 2070 in a few months just to get full use out of my monitor.

All I know is I saw the differences. I had an HD Tv before. PS4 Pro. Then got an 4k TV with HDR and saw better frame rates, colors and resolution.

1080p looks ugly on a 4K set but then so does 720p on a 1080p set so it's just making things native and non-jaggy.

4k isn't worth it.
