Incidentally, Gun Runner's Arsenal was a godsend in that it actually gave you something to do with your money past the midgame. SmidgeIsntBack posted... I love the laser rifle, especially with a scope so you can vaporize dudes from a mile away. The only problem with Energy Weapons in NV were the perpetual ash / goo piles. I don't know how much effect they had on performance longevity, but the real issue they create is that they still count as a corpse. See, a game cell can only hold a certain number of corpses (15 iirc). When the limit is crossed, a random corpse(s) is removed to bring the number back down; that NPC is permanently removed from the game, and won't ever respawn. As you might have guessed, ash / goo piles count against this limit, but never get removed. So if you like to farm high-population areas for exp / loot (most notably the areas around Vault 3) and start racking up a bunch of ash / goo piles, eventually the number of respawning enemies will dwindle down to nothing permanently. Tl;dr - don't farm enemies with energy weapons that leave ash / goo piles.
