The only other game that would've had it would be Fire Red / Leaf Green

It's in HG/SS at least, or so I recall as it's been a while since I touched those.

Now I miss the whole having any pokemon follow you around like it had(in a "real" pokemon game, so to speak). Oh well

Honestly, aside from catch mechanics, LG really isn't much different from a mainline Pokemon game. Well, let me put it this way, it's a lot less different than we were led to believe.
