plastic straws are insignificant compared to micro plastics (which, btw, some variants are carcinogens and are in your everything)

Plastic straws are harmful, but a relatively tiny percentage of the problem that's seeing disproportionate amounts of attention because it's the current environmentalist flavour of the month. That said, eliminating (or at least sharply reducing) single-use plastic straws is pretty easy and would have a non-zero impact, so we might as well make an effort hop on board instead of dismissing it as not being the most significant issue. It's just important to keep up the pressure beyond that and not let politicians or activists act like eliminating straws is good enough to save the world.

God put us here to make plastic because she couldn't do it by herself.

We're doing an ok job of it so far. Plastic can be seen in even the remote parts of the artic circle right now.

Last I checked, there were no real easy fixes.

I'd be quicker to put in stricter laws regarding recycling rather than ban them but that's me. Also look into a more bio degradable alternative. Think there was a plastic they made that degrades after like 30 or 60 days. No fucking clue why we ain't funding that. Probably cause it used hemp if I recall. Or canibis oil I forget. I'd want to see if it could be tweaked to see if it could be made to last a little longer though. Half a year off the top of my head sounds ideal.

I'm starting to wonder if I should stock up and hoard them in case some idiot decides to institute a nationwide ban. It's not that farfetched--they did ban the traditional incandescent light bulb after all.

Yeah my step father has a minor stockpile of old light bulbs.

Personally plastic straws would only affect my restaurant experience. I'd like end up buying a metal one and just keeping it in my car for such things.

I don't know. What's it like?

I remember air raid drills in elementary school in the 1950s. It's hard to take these invented fad "modern problems" seriously.
