I'm playing Adventure Island for the first time and, while it shares many similarities with Super Mario Bros., I'm not enjoying it. You have a caveman running around eating fruits and vegetables, throwing hammers at snails and pigs, riding on skateboards, and fighting a rhino-headed witch doctor to win back a princess. I don't get it. What's the theme here?

I really shouldn't complain. At least Adventure Island is kinda consistent in that it has a tropical island motif. With Mario, there's not really a label that can be given to anything except to say that it's kind of a fairy tale world. But with a modern plumber as the hero.

I'm just bitter that the adults who "didn't get it" were the ones who made the Mario movie. <_<
