I just did several searches using their search feature and they returned empty results. Previously, a bunch of nude images would appear for those results.

https://piunikaweb.com/2018/11/22/tumblr-shutting-down-no-but-theres-exodus-and-newgrounds-is-gaining-from-it/

Tumblr released a statement that suggested all this was due to the discovery of child-related explicit material that the company said somehow missed the platforms filters. Thereafter, it came to light that in addition to the culprit blogs, even blogs with general NSFW content and even SFW content are being targeted and removed by Tumblr.

I guess Tumblr is dead.

I mean, sure, I've explained to her a dozen times how to use EMP and Tube sites and showed her that Bing is a decent resource for pornography.

Oh wait I forgot, three seconds into every video she has some annoying criticism. Every girl is "annoying" in some way. Like, welcome to my world, babe.

"They somehow slipped past our filters" doesn't mean much when every popular post's replies are 50% porn bots.

I remember the initial fear when Yahoo bought them out, but I don't think anyone expected them to be so bad at managing that the NSFW and offensive content would grow out of control.

I wonder if the real reason tumblr's purging porn this time, is because the NSFW cockblock screen didn't actually drive much new user signups.

Anything that gets between a user and content will drive only bounces and publicly-shared workarounds. Just change your useragent to "googlebot", and tumblr lets you right on in to look at whatever depravity hasn't been deleted yet.

wait is mainstream media picking up on that stuff only now?

/pol/ had threads about it like a month and a half ago

crazy how "da wurst place in da internets" is aware of hideous things going on far before anyone else

i wonder if they're going to pick up on the child grooming on youtube?

to clarify, users of /pol/ found streams of young girls by searching mundane things ("my stream" or other small crap about how someone's day is going, cant really remember this was about 3 or 4 weeks ago)

from there, they found people live chatting them telling them to dance, or to do stuff like the splits and change into a swimsuit etc. the same people also told them "name your next stream an emoticon that way only your fans can see it" (in reality it's because you can't search an emoticon on youtube, so now that they are subbed to these kids they get a notification whenever they would stream) so god only knows what children have been affected by this and what they might do for their "fans" that show them attention

but no one cares cuz LOL YOUTUBE RIGHT just watch the 6 million people streaming or playing whatever hit new game comes out and how they talk about how it's "SOOOOO GOOOD"

Kombucha posted...

actually, that happened about a week or two after i saw the thread on /pol/ regarding the illegal underage content.

if any of ya'll think /pol/ is just an evil place, you should check your instagrams for "dropbox links" or whatever it was. last thread on that was months ago, but it was people asking or giving links with numbers ("have 13 looking for 15" or something similar)

there is a lot of shady shit going on in social media, and it's easy for people to pull off because ya know, people only care about the people who have followers.

There's been a really big pornbot issue lately, it's been really bad for the last couple of years but it's been especially bad in the last two or so months. The Tumblr app was actually unlisted on the Google Play Store and the App Store due to the porn bot problem.

A few regular, chill people have been losing their accounts - the "Tumblr purge", as it's been christened, seems to strike kind of randomly. There's an option to contact the staff, and it's worked for some folks, but others have been waiting for a response for like a week or more. I follow this artist girl who's friends with a popular blog named polyglotplatypus, and they've basically lost a friend because Tumblr hasn't gotten back from reviewing the account. Things are certainly interesting.

Honestly, I think the purge is for the best. There's a lot of moderate and chill content on Tumblr, even with its more extreme content like batshit crazy Sherlock/Voltron/Steven Universe fans or whatever - but there's also a lot of shit going on, and there are some extraordinarily shitty groups of people on the platform. 2018 alone has seen a sharp increase in hatred towards asexual/aromatic people, and there's been a subgroup on the platform who stayed hidden for ages before the Tumblr discourse caught up with them - MAPs.

What is a MAP? It's a Minor Attracted Person. AKA a fucking pedophile.

Tumblr is a goddamn mess, and it has been for a while - even before this recent porn bot and pedo problem. I can only hope that this Tumblr purge business scrubs a majority of the website's hateful and morally reprehensible content away, because when it isn't this level of fucked up, it is honestly a decent platform - I've surrounded myself in decent, funny content for years, and made friends through the platform over mutual interests. Even with the raving lunatics, I would say that it's the friendliest social network to be involved with. So hopefully the website survives and manages to purge the most abhorrent and illegal happenings from the website, because I would hate to see the platform as a whole go up in smoke. I would be losing a good handful of friends in the process.

Dumbasses grooming on large popular public sites are pretty much asking for a channel's subscribers to be mostly cops. All a crackdown would do is drive it back underground where it's largely invisible.

wrong, the "MAP"s that were just found had been posting for a LONG time. it was only when it was found that the app got delisted.

it's very easy to convince people who don't use the app, that it is only being done on the grounds of the reasons you are stating. yet no action was taken for YEARS until the illicit porn trade on it was found out.

thats the thing, the streams people posted to /pol/ had maybe 10 or 20 viewers. what is the chance of a cop finding a random child's stream, and why would a cop be looking for that?

the absolute chance given how many people there are in the world with electronics, compared to police is almost nil. I wish I could remember the names of some of the people that were posted

I think one was MrGood____ or something, but essentially he was telling the girl to dance, and telling her that anyone saying not to listen to him was a bad person, he just wanted her to have fun etc. it's fucking sick.

Of those 10 or 20 viewers, it's pretty safe to assume that three or four are cops or FBI or something.

I did say that this garbage sub-group have been rolling for a while, but they've only been "exposed" on Tumblr for a relatively short period of time. That's my experience anyway, I only saw the discourse posts a couple of months ago. They could have been active for years beforehand for all I know.

I'm just writing what I know from using the platform, this is the information that's perpetuated around there. Folks have been dissatisfied with Tumblr's handling of NSFW and blatantly illegal shit for a while now, I know that much - it's only now that the app has been delisted that Tumblr has come down to sort this shit out.

That's just how it goes.

Start a new site, and get popular from all the "adult" content that got kicked out of some other site.
Kick out all the "adult" content once your site becomes popular enough, and advertisers and payment processors complain.
Someone else starts a new site, and attracts all the porn you just purged.
