Republican Congressman Loser, Bruce Poliquin is asking a federal judge to order a new election if he declines to invalidate Maine's new voting system and declare him the WINNER!!

Judge Lance Walker declined to stop the ballot counting process in which Democrat Jared Golden was declared the winner in the nation's first ranked balloting in a congressional election

Poliquin wants the Trump appointed judge to declare the system unconstitutional and he demands the judge declare him the winner or order a second election made late Tuesday after he already requested a recount

Dmitry Barn, a specialist in constitutional law said the updated filing provides a new remedy for the judge who expressed concern about the fairness of changing the election outcome after voters cast their ballots a certain way relying on a new voting system

It's still an uphill battle because the judge is unmoved by the arguments and time is running out

The voting system which was approved in 2016 lets voters rank all candidates on the ballot. Last place finishers are eliminated and votes reassigned if no candidate emerges as a majority winner in the first round of tallies.

Both Poliquin and Golden got 46% of first place votes and neither got a majority..

Poliquin won the first round by 2000 votes but the lead evaporated after additional voting as Golden emerged victorious by 3500 votes after trailing 2 candidates who were eliminated and their supporters second choices were reassigned to him.

Kyle Bailey who led the campaign for ranked voting said the Republican is working through is "5 stages of grief over his election"

Poliquin maintains its his responsibility to ensure that every vote in the 2nd Congressional District race was "legally cast and legally counted". The ranked system is only used for federal races and statewide primary elections but not in governor or legislative races as Democratic elect Janet Mills plans to amend the constitution to use this in all elections.

Do you think the Judge should overturn this, crown Poliquin the winner or end this?

Ranked balloting would help to get rid of the two-party system that we're currently stuck with.

Most people vote Democrat or Republican not because they are Democrats or Republicans, but because they are voting against the other party and picking one of the two big parties is the best way to do that.

With ranked voting, you can vote for a third party as your first choice, then you can pick a major party for your second or third choice, votes that will be used if your first pick doesn't get enough votes to win. More people will vote for Green or Libertarian or whatever candidates because even if they don't win, their second votes will still go against the candidate they oppose.

Ranked voting has a lot of support from my understanding and I had no idea any State had actually implemented it. Hopefully it doesnt get overturned and spreads to other States.

Ooh! A quick google search shows it might be coming to multiple cities in California! Me likey.

Ranked voting is one of the superior voting systems isn't it?

I can see why a republican would be against good ideas.

It's far better than First Past The Post (the system used by most of the US).

I'd rather have a system where people can just vote for as many candidates as they want, and the one w/ the most votes wins. But ranked voting is a decent compromise.

Another option is cardinal voting, also known as a ratings or graded ballot. You assign each candidate a score (A-F, 0-10, etc), all the candidates scores are tallied and the candidate with the highest score wins. This allows people to not only vote for a candidate, but to also vote against someone.

That sounds hard, just pressing the right button seems to be too much for folks
