I hated them. At least on Playstation it was justifiable because of the disc format but on N64 games using memory cards instead of battery backup on the carts themselves felt like a lame excuse to make you spend more money on pointless shit.

Solid Sonic posted...Youre mixing up the Expansion Pak with the Memory Paks. Oh yeah, I also forgot how it was a hassle keeping track of which memory paks had which games' saves on them. And how Nintendo's memory paks had so frustratingly little storage space so then you'd buy the third-party ones so you didn't have to be switching memory paks out all the time but then they'd frequently fail and lose your data. --- ... Glad they're dead. I can understand why PS1 and to some extent PS2 needed to do it; onboard storage would've cost a lot or been too limited, requiring either deleting saves or having memory cards as a secondary option. Xbox should never have done so; it should have accepted standard USB flash drives (which were starting to become common at the time, and this could've boosted them), just like PS3+ / XB360+ do (in fact, it DOES accept standard USB flash drives; the ports are literally just USB with a different plug - get an adapter and you can use a flash drive, though there is a maximum size).

The Xbox didn't have USB ports, did it? Yes and no. The controller ports are, on an electronic level, just USB ports with a different physical plug. You can literally wire a controller cable together to a USB extension cable, bam, you can now plug a USB flash drive (correctly formatted, and with a very low size limit, I think 8MB?) into your Xbox. But it doesn't have any USB ports with the normal plug, no. --- https://imgtc.com/i/0mboxsZ.png <-- Tiamat is best babe, if you disagree you're objectively wrong. https://tinyurl.com/dtlamulana2 <-- La-Mulana 2 LP ... Xbox 360 has USB ports but it required special memory cards to move data around at first. The USB storage devices weren't permitted until the S models did away with the memory slots.
