When it starts to affect general mobility.

Are you breathing heavily and your knees hurt after a short walk? If so, you're probably obese rather than fat.

Obese is defined as BMI>30. Fat would be Overweight, aka 30>BMI>25.

For example, if someone 180cm(6ft) tall weights more than 100kg(220lbs), they're obese.

BMI assumes everyone has the same types of frame and musclemass, though, so it's fairly useless. There are plenty guys at the gym that would be defined as fat and obese that are most definitely not.

"fat" is a colloquial term that is loosely defined. "obese" is a scientific category within "fat" with an explicit definition
